Paddy Power Gold Cup Runners 2023: 14 Entries For Saturday’s Cheltenham Feature

The Paddy Power Gold Cup Handicap Chase is always a competitive affair and this year is no different with 14 runners in the final entries for Saturday’s 2m4f race.

Of those runners, they are spearheaded with two Cheltenham Festival winners from last season in Stage Star, who won the Turners’ Novices’ Chase and Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase winner The Real Whacker.

Stage Star and The Real Whacker Both Unbeaten Over Fences at Cheltenham

In fact, both runners are also putting unbeaten Cheltenham chase records on the line, with Stage Star 2-from-2 and The Real Whacker 3-from-3 over the bigger obstacles at Prestbury Park.

The Real Whacker will also bring solid form to the table, having beaten Gerri Colombe at the Festival last term (watch below) and that horse is now a leading fancy in the Cheltenham Gold Cup betting.

However, as a result this Patrick Neville 162-rated horse will have to shoulder 12st and the last horse to win with that sort of burden was in 1965 (Dunkirk, who won with 12st 6lbs).

There are many other big chances that include the Laura Morgan-trained Notlongtillmay, another leading Paul Nicholls runner Il Ridoto, Fugitif, who loves coming second here and the Dan Skelton-trained Unexpected Party.

The last-named will be trying to give Skelton his first winner in the race but has saddled the third in each of the last three seasons. The horse won on his return at Chepstow last month and beat Knappers Hill, who franked the form to win at Wincanton last Saturday.

He was fifth in the Turners behind Stage Star and Notlongtillmay but is 9lb and 6lbs better off with the pair this time.
