Leeds United are in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jesse Marsch. England legends Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard are being linked with the job.
The Yorkshire team find themselves in a tough position as they look to survive another season in the Premier League.
Marsch was sacked after poor performances throughout the first half of the season. Leeds will be hoping a new manager will have the same impact Marsch did when he kept the side up last season.
Various names have been mentioned around Twitter and on sporting news sites. Whoever takes the job will have a big task on their hands.
Spy Gate Continued
If Lampard were to make the move to Elland Road, it would round off the famous spy gate drama. Marcelo Bielsa, the then Leeds manager, was charged with sending a spy to watch over Derby County’s training sessions. Lampard was the manager of Derby at the time. The two sides met in the Championship play-offs in that season and Derby came out on top. This meant Lampard had the last laugh.
Lampard has been out of a job since being sacked from Leeds’ relegation rivals, Everton. He managed to keep Everton up last season against all odds, but struggled this season. Despite being sacked, many Everton fans were supportive of the former Chelsea midfielder.
Despite being linked with the job, Lampard is some way off the top favourites. He’s priced at 50/1 with most bookmakers.
Gerrard Return
Gerrard has been out of a job since parting ways with Aston Villa this season. He’s another potential name being touted with the chance of making the move to Elland Road.
Gerrard’s time at Aston Villa was up-and-down to say the least. In 40 matches he averaged 1.18 points per match.
The issues arose for Gerrard due to his big spending over last summer and lack of results at the start of the season. Gerrard was sacked by Villa and replaced with Unai Emery who has guided the team to 11th in the league.
Before moving to Aston Villa, Gerrard was at Rangers. While in Scotland, Gerrard restored the pride to the blue side of the Glasgow by winning the SPL for the first time since the team reformed. During that title winning season, Rangers went unbeaten in league season.
Gerrard’s odd of getting the Leeds job are better than Lampard. He’s priced at 20/1 to be the next Leeds United manager.
