Blue Rose Cen Favourite Among Nassau Stakes Runners Ahead of Nashwa

Given the weight for age structure to this race, three-year-olds receive 8lb from their elders. Terms favour Blue Rose Cen, and that’s not lost on horse racing betting sites when pricing up this feature contest. Her trainer Christopher Head is from a genuine dynasty in the sport in France and they come over as warm favourites.

Also among Nassau Stakes runners is last year’s winner, Nashwa. While she can’t benefit from the age allowance like 12 months ago, she hails from a stable with its own dynasty established in John and Thady Gosden’s Newmarket yard that has saddled five fillies to success here.

Complete Nassau Stakes Runners Guide 2023

1. Above The Curve

Group 1 winner in France who defied a penalty to win on Irish Champions Weekend. Closely matched with Nashwa on Prix de l’Opera form on Arc Weekend, but then bested her in Prix Corrida at Saint-Cloud and form franked since. Seems best with cut in the ground after dropping to third in the Pretty Polly Stakes latest. Place prospects if conditions remain soft.

2. Al Husn

Improving filly who comes here seeking a hat-trick after Listed win at Ayr races and Group 3 All-Weather win at Newcastle latest. Got the better of Nashwa on that occasion. One of the Nassau Stakes runners with a better chance than her official ratings suggests. In form and earned a crack at this level. Don’t be surprised if further progress made.

3. Nashwa

Last year’s winner who followed-up on a previous Group 1 success in France over course and distance. Unlucky second in Prix de l’Opera after that and fourth at the Breeders’ Cup on final start of campaign. Beaten under a penalty at Saint-Cloud and Newcastle first two starts this season, but successfully supplemented for Newmarket races when dropping back in trip and landing the Falmouth Stakes latest. Tops official ratings and has to be on any shortlist.

4. Blue Rose Cen

Churchill filly who rose to prominence with Group 1 success on Arc Weekend last autumn. Won a Classic Trial on reappearance, then the French Guineas and Oaks when stepped up beyond a mile to this trip latest. Adjusting ratings to reflect weight carried, all other Nassau Stakes runners have something to find with her. The one to beat.

5. Caernarfon

Came forward for staying on fourth in the 1000 Guineas on reappearance when third in The Oaks on Epsom Downs, but perhaps given too much to do when sixth over this trip in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot latest. Listed winner on soft ground as a two-year-old, though, and further improvement not ruled out.

6. Never Ending Story

Dual Leopardstown Group 3 winner over 7f on testing ground. Twice held by Blue Rose Cen in the French Guineas and Oaks since. Not effective on better going; so, while the soft surface will suit, other Nassau Stakes runners have more going for them.
