Serie A holders Napoli met La Liga side Barcelona in a well anticipated round of 16 Champions League tie. The game was picked out as one of the ties of the round, with either side having a chance of winning.
The hosts struggled in the first half with their Spanish opposition creating most of the chances. Barça, third in La Liga, looked threatening with Robert Lewandowski leading their attack. But for all their attacking play, Barça couldn’t make a breakthrough.
As for Napoli, their first half display meant it was the first time they’ve failed to register a shot in the first half of a Champions League game.

Barcelona picked up where they left off at the end of the first half, and eventually they broke the deadlock away in Naples. Lewandowski scored in the 60th minute to make it 1-0 to the visitors. The goal was Barça’s first Champions League knockout goal since Lionel Messi scored for them against PSG in March 2021.
With Napoli yet to register a shot on target, the Barcelona goal seemed to wake the Italian side up. In the 75th minute, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen – playing his first game since returning from the AFCON – scored. His goal was Napoli’s first and only shot on target.
Neither side were able to score a winner. The pair have set up a fascinating second leg in three weeks time. Barça will be confident, they can win the return leg and make it to the quarter-finals.
