Megan Nicholls ITV Racing Tips On Saturday 27th January 2024
The Megan Nicholls tips on Saturday 27th January come from Cheltenham and Doncaster, with a top afternoon of National Hunt jumping action in prospect.
At Cheltenham it’s Trials Day and the final race day at Prestbury Park before the Festival in March. Therefore, many clues ahead of the best four days of jumping on show this weekend, with races like the Cleeve Hurdle, Cotswold Chase and Unibet Hurdle three highlights.
The card has also been bolstered by last week’s cancelled Clarence House Chase added, just like it was year, and all eyes will be on Jonbon, who is the warm favourite with the best UK horse racing betting sites.
Then at Doncaster, the ITV Racing team are there to show three more races, that include the Rose Mares’ Hurdle, River Don and the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase – the old Skybet Chase.

Megan Nicholls Cheltenham Tips
12:05 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) (Registered As The Finesse) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo) 2m1f RTV: BURDETT ROAD – Super impressive since making the switch from the flat to hurdles, including winning at Cheltenham last time out. Toughest assignment to date with Sir Gino looking useful too, but Nicholls is expecting the James Owen runner to win this and continue his charge to the Triumph Hurdle in March.
1:50 Paddy Power Cotswold Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m1½f ITV: STAY AWAY FAY – Trained by Megan’s dad Paul, so she’s being loyal here. That said, this horse has a massive chance and at just 7 looks the big improve in the race. Won the Albert Bartlett at the Festival last season and is 2-from-2 over fences. Stays, is tough and is showing to have a lot of class – three ‘must-haves’ for any horse winning at Cheltenham.
2:25 Clarence House Chase (Grade 1) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 2m½f ITV: JONBON – Top-rated in the field and heads here 7-from-8 over fences. Last seen winning the Tingle Creek with ease and with no El Fabiolo this time, who will run in Ireland next weekend, this looks another good chance for the Henderson horse before heading to the Champion Chase.
Megan Nicholls Doncaster Tips
2:05 Doncaster Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m½f ITV: GALA MARCEAU – Top Irish trainer Willie Mullins won this in 2014 and 2017 with two classy mares you might have heard of – Annie Power and Vroum Vroum Mag.
He’s got a strong hand again with Ashroe Diamond and Gala Marceau, but Nicholls is pinning her hopes on the last-named. This is the only horse to beat Lossiemouth to date and was last seen winning over hurdles in France last May. Nicholls feels there is more to come from her and even though is the slight underdog of the Mullins pair she thinks the market has it wrong.
3:15 Doncaster Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (GBB Race) Cl1 (5yo+) 3m ITV: KANDOO KID – Another runner for ‘Dad’ here, as this this 8 year-old will be looking to her him a third win in the race, with Big Fella Thanks (2009) and Colourful Life (2005) the others.
Megan believes the longer trip will suit her dad’s horse, having been a bit outpaced in his races and then staying on well. Despite opting for the win on her BetMGM, she also claims the horse is a nice e/w price, so you might want to opt for a bit of ‘place’ security too.
