Mauricio Pochettino is edging closer to becoming Chelsea’s new manager, and he could be formally announced within the next week.

Talks have been progressing in a positive way over the past few days between the club and Pochettino, and is now close to completion.

He’s set to take over from Frank Lampard, who’s expected to be in charge for the remainder of the season. The former Chelsea midfielder certainly hasn’t had a good start to his second spell as manager of the club, and has lost all of his first four games in the dugout.

Chelsea are said to have been admirers of Poch in the past, and tried to get him to the club back in September when Thomas Tuchel left.

The 51-year-old has been out of work since parting ways with PSG back in July 2022 and the Argentine has been approached multiple times by Real Madrid since.

Pochettino has been on a shortlist of three names alongside Burnley boss Vincent Kompany and one other unnamed coach.

Former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann was ruled out of the running recently after originally being one of the favourites for the job. The 35-year-old was sacked by the German giants last month. Friction grew during talks with Chelsea resulting in the Blues looking elsewhere.
