United won’t be without competition for his signature however.
Reports have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are all interested in acquiring his services, with the latter being the bookies’ favourite to land him.
Southampton would like to keep hold of their academy product, but with relegation looming, they are likely to find it difficult to convince Ward-Prowse to stay.

Despite the south coast club sitting rock bottom of the Premier League table, Ward-Prowse’s form has been excellent.
The 28-year-old has bagged nine goals and assisted three times in 36 appearances in all competitions this term.
Not quite the numbers he displayed last year in his best-ever performing season, but this is expected due to Southampton’s dismal campaign.
Ward-Prowse has edged closer to David Beckham’s Premier League free-kick record, too.
He is now just one free-kick goal away from equalling Beckham’s record tally of 18 goals from direct free-kicks.

United’s interest in the midfielder comes amid rumours of Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay’s departures this summer.
January loan signing Marcel Sabitzer will also return to his parent club Bayern Munich at the end of the campaign. It remains to be seen whether ten Hag will attempt to make the Austrian’s move a permanent one.
