Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Southampton midfielder, Romeo Lavia, after the Saints rejected Liverpool’s £41m bid.

The Red Devils are in the process of completing a deal for Rasmus Hojlund after agreeing a £62 plus add ons fee and are now in the battle to sign the Southampton midfielder.

Erik ten Hag has already secured two signings this summer, as Mason Mount swapped Stamford Bridge for Old Trafford and Andre Onana signed from Inter Milan.

United have been linked with a host of names during the early stages of the summer window, including Fiorentina star, Sofyan Amrabat.

A move for the Moroccan may make a deal for Romeo Lavia redundant, however, according to reports the club are set to join Liverpool in the race for the Saints’ star signature.

Lavia signed from Manchester City and cemented his place in the heart of Southampton’s midfield – making 35 appearances in all competitions.

Despite Southampton’s underwhelming performance in England’s top-flight, the 19-year-old proved himself capable of performing in the Premier League.

The Belgian’s contract is set to expire in 2027, meaning any transfer could cost up to £50m, especially due to Southampton’s dealings with Liverpool this summer.

The Reds submitted an original bid of £37m, which was immediately rejected by the Championship side and an improved bid of £41m was met with the same fate.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have added a host of midfield additions to their squad, with Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai joining in the early stages of the window.

However, with Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fabinho all leaving Anfield, the signing of Lavia has been made a priority.
