Football transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Liverpool have rejected an approach from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig for their Portuguese youngster Fabio Carvalho.

Liverpool have reportedly rejected a bid from RB Leipzig for their Portuguese starlet Fabio Carvalho.

This comes just five days after Jurgen Klopp admitted that the 20-year-old could depart the club in the summer on a temporary basis.

However, Fabrizio Romano reports that Leipzig want the youngster permanently, whilst Liverpool are keen on just loaning the player out.

Romano revealed the news over on his Twitter account.

“RB Leipzig had opening bid for Fabio Carvalho turned down by Liverpool, as Reds don’t want the player to leave on permanent deal.” he tweeted.

“Liverpool could be open to a buy back option clause into the deal, as revealed yesterday; clubs will discuss that soon.”

Despite a promising start at Anfield following his £7.7million move from Fulham, Carvalho’s season has largely been a disappointment.

Since December, he has made just five appearances for Klopp’s side.

His lack of game time saw his future questioned at the club in a recent press conference, with Klopp revealing he could leave the club on loan.

“I think there is a possibility that maybe Fabio will go on loan or whatever. We will see,” Klopp said.

“The thing is, this was not Fabio’s best year of his career, clearly, in a very young career, but it might have been his most important.

“No player has impressed me more than Fabio, that’s the truth.

“Because this kind of very talented boy came here with big dreams and big expectations, it was OK in the beginning but didn’t work out in the end.

“His work ethic will give him a fantastic career. He trained while getting nothing.

“For players, there’s only one present you have each week: you line me up, if not that then take me in the squad. That’s my only chance to satisfy a player.

“If I don’t do that, it’s about how the player reacts – and his reactions, in a row, I never saw it before. Unbelievable.

“I’m not sure if he goes on loan or whatever, if we keep him, we will see.”
