Leeds manager Jesse Marsch was less than pleased with Aston Villa’s tactics following his side’s 0-0 draw on Sunday, as he expressed his frustration with the opposition after the game.

Leeds vs Aston Villa was the much less anticipated matchup on super Sunday, with the Manchester derby being played just hours before.

Those hoping that the late game would be as good as the early kick off will have been mightily disappointed, as 10 man Leeds were held to a goalless draw with Villa at Elland Road.

Jesse Marsch may be new to the Premier League, but the American boss understands the kind of pace the league should be played at.

“This is the best league in the world and our fans don’t come here to watch a match at snail’s pace.

“I almost feel we have to apologise to our fans. They didn’t get an entertaining match, they got a match that was slowed down by an opponent from the first minute and they [the fans] don’t get to enjoy coming to Elland Road as much as they should.

“It’s respect for how we play against the ball, in the aggression we show and quality we have against the ball. Our fans like to see us where the team plays with aggression and they [Villa] are trying to flip the script.”

Steven Gerrard wasn’t impressed with Marsch’s comments on his side’s tactics, and replied to the Leeds manager after the game.

“Was he unhappy with their timewasting when they went down to 10 men? It works both ways.

“But I’m not interested in Jesse and what he thinks and his opinion. We will do what we need to do. I’m only interested in Aston Villa.”

Leeds went down to ten men just minutes into the second half, as Luis Sinisterra was shown a second yellow for blocking a quick freekick from Douglas Luiz.

Despite having only ten men for the majority of the second half, Villa were unable to break the deadlock in yet another disappointing showing from Steven Gerrard’s men, as the game ended 0-0.
