Lay Of The Day Tip For Horse Racing: Wednesday 21st February 2024

The UK horse racing cards on Wednesday come from Doncaster, Ludlow and Kempton (AW).

See below Andy Newton’s lay of the day tip – a fancied horse that he makes a case on why it might NOT win.

There are several ways to play this lay of the day tip. You can either join top betting exchange Betfair to lay horses by betting on them NOT to win (recent results below).

Or you could just rule this horse out and bet on another runner to win with the best horse racing betting sites – like BetMGM. Where you can get a £40 free bet below – you choose!

Note: Most lays selected will be priced reasonably at 4/1 or shorter. However, if any should drift before the race to a much bigger price and liability, they are probably best avoided.

Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Wednesday: 2:25pm Ludlow – GAZETTE BOURGEOISE

The Ben Case-trained GAZETTE BOURGEOISE has been dropped 2lbs more by the handicapper and is now rated 3lbs lower than his last win.

However, that success came over hurdles and he’s so far winless from eight tries over fences.

That victory also came back in January 2022 – so over two years ago – and has now been beaten in his last 11 races.

The last of those was a big defeat (33 lengths) at Newbury, while the big worry for me is his jumping. Over the bigger obstacles he’s not been the most fluent – now making errors in his last three races.

He’s also dropped a tad in trip here at Ludlow and also into a better class race – so, in theory, things might be happening a shade quicker in this race, which will also put more of a focus on his jumping.

Finally, looking at the others in the race, there also seems to be several that have claims, including course winner Malaita, recent Wincanton scorer Plenty Of Time, plus Harry Cobden, who rode the selection two runs back, is also an interesting jockey booking for Terresita.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
