Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Monday: 3:50pm Plumpton – NO HUBS NO HOOBS

The Joe Tizzard runner No Hubs No Hoobs is one of the favourites with the best UK horse racing betting sites for this Handicap Chase at Plumpton on Monday.

He’s been placed in the top three in his last four races, but the worry is that he’s still only won once from 15 starts. While that success also came back in December 2022 at Wincanton and so is now over a year without a win.

That victory also came off a 5lb lower mark and that day the useful claimer Freddie Gingell also took off 7lb – meaning here he’s racing off a 12lb higher rating.

Yes, a recent second at Exeter and Wincanton were solid runs, but last time No Hubs No Hoobs also hung right all through the race, which certainly won’t be ideal around the left-handed Plumpton track if he does that again.

The ease in grade will, of course, help, but this also sees him carry a lot more racing weight than last time (11-5), whereas he only had 10-2 the last day (plus Freddie’ 5lb claim).

Brendan Powell takes over today too, so also no claiming jockey on his back to help with the weight and the fact that connections are also reaching for the first-time cheekpieces suggests they are trying to iron about a problem. Which is most-likely linked to the hanging issue in his last race.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
