The Saudi Pro League is preparing for its biggest coup yet with a €700m-a-year offer on the table for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, and we’re breaking down the contract’s value to see just how much the Frenchman could earn at Al-Hilal.

It has been widely reported across the media that Kylian Mbappe is the subject of a world-record, £259m bid from Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal. The French international has been put up for sale by PSG ahead of his looming contract expiration next summer.

The 24-year-old was left out of the club’s squad for the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, believing that Mbappe has already come to an agreement on personal terms with Real Madrid for a free transfer in 2024.

However, PSG do not want to lose the player on a free and are listening to offers from around the globe for football’s biggest superstar. Al-Hilal are prepared to offer Mbappe a one-year deal worth €700m and €13m a week, under the assumption the player’s wish is to join Real Madrid next year.

In terms of the largest sports contracts, Mbappe would become the highest earner ever – and that’s on a one-year deal! The current leaders deals run from 2.5-10 years:

  1. Lionel Messi – 4 years, €607m (Barcelona 2017-2021)
  2. Cristiano Ronaldo – 2.5 years, €483m (Al-Nassr 2023-2025)
  3. Patrick Mahomes – 10 years, €405m (Kansas City Chiefs 2020-2031)

Mbappe is reportedly prepared to sit out the entirety of next season and leave PSG on a free, with the club offering him an ultimatum: extend your contract, or be sold this summer. He would earn up to €100m whilst on the sidelines and €2m per week on his current deal.

This is just the next step in the Saudi Pro League’s attempt to become a footballing superpower and Mbappe could team up with the likes of Ruben Neves, Kalidou Koulibaly and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic at Al-Hilal.

Stars such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Edouard Mendy, Marcelo Brozovic, Jota and Roberto Firmino have already made the switch following Ronaldo‘s move to Al-Nassr at the beginning of the year.

It would be hard to fathom Mbappe declining a one-year, €700m deal to play in Saudi Arabia and then leave on a free transfer to join Real Madrid next summer. This could become one of the biggest turning points in the history of the sport as we know it.
