Al Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo has seemingly taken a swipe towards Lionel Messi by claiming that the Saudi Pro League is ‘better’ than the MLS, whilst also confirming that he won’t be returning to play in Europe.
Ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo looks to have made a dig towards former rival Lionel Messi by claiming that the Saudi Pro League is ‘better’ than the MLS following the Argentine’s transfer to the United States.
Messi was offered an incredibly lucrative deal by Saudi club Al-Hilal after departing PSG, however the recent World Cup winner opted to join David Beckham-owned Inter Miami instead.
Signing the Rosario-born forward would have further strengthened the standard and stature of the league, having already signed the likes of Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, Marcelo Brozovic and Roberto Firmino this summer.
Several more are expected to arrive in the Middle Eastern league before the end of the transfer window. Lens’ Seko Fofana looks to be the latest to swap Europe for Saudi Arabia, with the Ivorian expected to link up with Ronaldo and co. at Al Nassr.

Speaking to the media following his side’s 5-0 defeat to Celta Vigo in pre-season, Ronaldo said: “The Saudi league is better than MLS,”
The Portuguese forward continued, claiming that his influence has caused the mass influx of European arrivals in Saudi Arabia.
“I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here.
“In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi. In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league,”
Ronaldo joined Al Nassr after a major fallout with Manchester United, and had been linked with a return to Real Madrid, however he has now confirmed that his playing days in Europe are over.
“I’m 100 percent sure I won’t return to any European club, I’m 38 years old.” he said.
“European football has lost a lot of quality. The only valid one and still doing good is the Premier League. They’re way ahead of all the other leagues.”
