Jordan Henderson is reportedly open to switching Liverpool for Saudi Arabia after attracting interest from Al-Ettifaq, who are coached by former teammate Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, according to L’Equipe.

The French outlet claim that Al-Ettifaq boss Steven Gerrard, who formerly played with Henderson, is trying to convince the England international to join him in the Middle East.

And that may well just happen, as respected Reds reporter DaveOCKOP claims that the 33-year-old is open to switching Merseyside for Saudi Arabia.

It is claimed that Al-Ettifaq are yet to make an official bid for Henderson, but have held negotiations with intermediaries where it was revealed that the midfielder is open to the idea of the move.

Henderson is said to be one of the highest earners at Anfield, therefore his exit would free up funds for the Reds, however a transfer fee is yet to be discussed.

As Liverpool look to completely overhaul their midfield ahead of the new Premier League campaign, it may be the perfect time for Henderson to depart.

The Reds have already acquired both Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, and although they are attacking midfielders, Jurgen Klopp is believed to be wanting to add further midfield options.

Romeo Lavia, Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Gabri Veiga have all been linked with Anfield moves, which would surely reduce Henderson’s gametime significantly.

The emergence of Curtis Jones could also spell the end of Henderson’s starting berth under Klopp, as the 22-year-old shone towards the latter end of last season, and was a star for the England U21 side on their run to lifting the European Championship last week.

Henderson also has two years left on his contract, therefore a sale this summer would likely gain Liverpool as good of a fee as they could get, with the player now ageing and approaching the final stages of his career.
