Check out the Jonbon horse profile for Nicky Henderson’s star chaser who will be looking to keep up his strong record under rules over the next couple of months as the NH season enters crunch times.
Jonbon Has Only Lost Three Times In Career (12/15)
It’s fair to say that Nicky Henderson has a superstar at Seven Barrows in JONBON with the son of Walk In The Park only losing twice so far in his career under rules. Having lost just three times in 15 runs, he has still never been disgraced and finished runner-up on all of those occasions.
The JP McManus-owned eight-year-old was a handy prospect when novice hurdling a couple of seasons ago, and he won four out of his five runs in that discipline.
Not many were able to get near Jonbon over hurdles, and his only loss actually came against unbeaten stablemate Constitution Hill in the 2022 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
He would have one more race over the smaller obstacles after that at Aintree, where he beat El Fabiolo (see below), who has turned out to be his biggest rival over fences.
Jonbon was excellent over hurdles, but he has been even better since going chasing with a smashing record of seven wins in eight runs over the larger obstacles.
Similarly to his hurdling venture, he has lost just twice over fences so far and that was at last year’s Cheltenham Festival when losing out to old rival El Fabiolo in the Arkle. His other loss came in the rescheduled Clarence House Chase, where a series of blunders cost him the win when losing narrowly to Elixir De Nutz.

Jonbon Made Headlines Brought At Goffs Sale In 2021
After being bred in France, Jonbon was sold for a whopping £570,000 at the Goffs Yorton Sale in November 2021, and over three years later, he has made more than that in prize money - repaying owner JP McManus and all connections.
He was always going to sell for a lot, being a full brother to the now-retired Willie Mullins legend Douvan. The Rich Ricci-owned horse won over £600k when racing for Mullins so any relation was bound to be valuable.
Jonbon Entries: When Does Henderson's Classy Chaser Run Next?
The next run for Jonbon is expected to be the 2024 Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival on Wednesday 13th March 2024 as he looks to get revenge on El Fabiolo at the venue 12 months on from their Arkle battle.
Willie Mullins' star 2m chaser beat Jonbon at the festival last year and will have high hopes of doing the same thing this time around. However, if Jonbon can brush up on mistakes in the Champion Chase, he still has a solid chance of going close.
Hot Contender For Queen Mother Champion Chase
With the 2024 Cheltenham Festival on the horizon, Jonbon will be the Champion Chase, and he is the current second favourite to land the prize with the best UK betting sites. His main rival will once again be El Fabiolo, who the bookies have priced as the 2/5 odds-on market leader.
The race will be run this year on Wednesday 13th March.
Henderson has won the Champion Chase six times, with the first success in the race dating all the way back to 1992. His most recent was when Altior won it back-to-back in 2018 and 2019. Sprinter Sacre was also a dual winner in this contest for Seven Barrows (2013 & 2016)
