It was the James Maddison show on Monday night, as the English midfielder smashed in two beauties from outside of the box as well as setting up another in Leicester’s 4-0 win over Notttingham Forest.

Many believe that Maddison should be on the plane to Qatar for the World Cup this year, and with England’s attacking prospects looking bleak of late, the Leicester man could be just what Gareth Southgate needs.

Maddison opened the scoring after 25 minutes on Monday night with a heavily deflected strike from the edge of the box which found the corner of the net.

The second goal of the game came from fellow Englishman Harvey Barnes, as the winger cut inside the left and swept the ball into the bottom right corner.

The pick of the goals was Maddison’s second and Leicester City’s third, as the 25-year old hit a pinpoint freekick in off the post just before halftime which left Forest dead and buried going into the break.

Patson Daka finished off Forest in the second half thanks to a Maddison assist, as Leicester saw off their midland rivals with ease.

Maddison has been in excellent form as of late despite Leicester’s struggles, and Brendan Rodgers spoke after the game about the injustice of Maddison not getting called up to the England squad.

“It is such a shame I think for the country and for the boy himself. You see his talent and his performance level for the last 18 months is clear. I think it is only Harry Kane who has been involved in more goals among English players.

“To not even been in the squad, and I think to have a player even if he is not going to start but a player of that quality… and not only that, in international football it is the personality to take the ball and be creative to change the game.”

James Maddison can only hope that Gareth Southgate deems him good enough to take to Qatar next month, but with time running out, the Leicester number 10 will have to keep performing right up until the plane leaves.
