ITV Racing On New Year’s Day: SEVEN Races Live On ITV4
New Year’s Day gets off to the perfect start with ITV Racing broadcasting seven races on the day as the cameras head to both Cheltenham and Musselburgh.
A good little race at Cheltenham kickstarts the ITV Racing on New Year’s Day with a 2m½f Handicap Chase (12:55). Nigel Twiston-Davies’ Matata heads the market and it could turn in to a two-way battle with the second favourite Libberty Hunter.
Next is the Class 2 Hogmaneigh Handicap Hurdle at Musselburgh (1:10) where Paul Nicholls has a rare entry at the Edinburgh track with Afadil making the long journey up. The 14-time Champion Trainer has a solid 33% strike rate therefrom just 43 runs (14 wins), so he could be worth siding with.
The third ITV race is the Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Prestbury Park (1:30) where the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Inch House is searching for his third win on the bounce. Irish raider Stumptown could give him a good race with Gavin Cromwell typically doing well at the track when sending his horses over.
Next we have another from Cheltenham with the New Year’s Day Handicap (2:05) where Ryanair Chase hope Stage Star returns to the track after winning the Paddy Power Gold Cup back in November. He faces a couple of handy sorts including Venetia Williams’ Frero Banbou.
The final race on ITV Racing from Musselburgh is the Auld Reekie Handicap Chase (2:20) and the Skeltons make a sporadic trip to the track with Frere D’Armes leading the market in this one.
Cheltenham’s fourth ITV race is an impressive looking Handicap Hurdle over 3m (2:40) where the in-form trio of Ed Keeper, Butch and Springwell Bay look to go head-to-head at the top of the betting.
Lastly, the seventh contest of the ITV Racing on New Year’s Day sees the Relkeel Hurdle go off at 3:15. Marie’s Rock has questions to answer after her flat effort on reappearance and the Nicky Henderson-trained mare takes on Bob Olinger who is unbeaten around Cheltenham. Olly Murphy’s duo of Strong Leader and Brewin’upastorm complete the four runner field.
