Europe (Or Great Britain) Have Won The Ryder Cup 14 Times In The Past

The Ryder Cup was first staged in 1927, so this week’s latest edition will the 44th time USA and Europe/Great Britain have faced-off.

During the Ryder Cup early years, the golf honours were shared between the two sides, with USA winning the first ever Ryder Cup in 1927 at the Worcester Country Club and the Great Britain side getting their revenge two years later in 1929 at the Moortown Gold Club in Yorkshire.

After the first four events it was tied in the series at 2-2, but things soon changed with the USA winning a stagging 20 of the next 21 (one tied and retained) Ryder Cups to race into a commanding lead.

In more recent times, however, under their new name and armed with a bigger pool of players, Europe have bounced back – winning seven of the last 10 Ryder Cups.

Plus, the European Ryder Cup side have also built up a dominance when playing at home (so to speak).

They’ve won ALL of the last six Ryder Cups in front of their home fans and the last time the USA won golf’s biggest team event outside America was in 1993, at the Belfry in Warwickshire.

In total, Europe/Great Britain have now won the Ryder Cup 14 times, but still trail USA with 27 wins (two ties).
