Arsenal Transfer News

According to The Sun, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been offered a return to the Bundesliga by Bayer Leverkusen.

The report claims that Mikel Arteta will not stand in the midfielder’s way if he wishes to leave, as the Gunners eye a move for West Ham’s £120m-rated Declan Rice.

Arsenal are also reportedly looking at Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Chelsea‘s Mason Mount as midfield options.

This would likely leave Xhaka on Arteta’s bench, despite being a key figure in the Gunners’ bid for the title this term.

He has also become a fan favourite once again, having fallen out of favour at the club after being stripped of the captaincy by Unai Emery in 2019.

But now, with Leverkusen reportedly willing to offer the midfielder a long-term contract – a return to Germany may well be on the cards.

It could also help facilitate a move for Arsenal target Moussa Diaby, who is valued at around £50m.

Diaby has scored nine goals in 30 Bundesliga appearances for Leverkusen this term, but is also of interest to Newcastle, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

30-year-old Xhaka has been at the Emirates since 2016, after joining from Borussia Monchengladbach.

In that time, he has won the FA Cup on two occasions, the Community Shield twice, and earned a Europa League runners-up medal in 2018/19.

This term, Xhaka has made 44 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, as they secured Champions League football for the first time since 2016/17.

He has also contributed in front of goal, notching seven goals and seven assists.

His exit in the summer isn’t a guarantee, but with just a year left on his contract – it is certainly beginning to look likely.
