The Grand National day results and action at Aintree didn’t disappoint as the three-day meeting went out with a bang. Look and see where the horses you backed on Merseyside and if they won or made the frame below.

As well as the card containing the world’s most famous steeplechase and biggest race for horse racing betting sites in the UK in terms of turnover, there were three Grade 1s on the supporting card. The Mildmay course had the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle, Liverpool Hurdle and Maghull Novices’ Chase run on it. See the race by race results and Aintree analysis:

Full Grand National Day Results from Aintree & Day 3 of the Festival

William Hill Handicap Hurdle Result (1:20)

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Gwennie May Boy Charlie Todd Dan Skelton 7½ lengths 9/2
2nd Lord Snootie Jack Tudor Christian Williams ½ a length 18/1
3rd West Balboa Harry Skelton Dan Skelton neck 11/4F
4th Johnnywho Jonjo O’Neill Jr Jonjo O’Neill 4¼ lengths 28/1

Dan Skelton saddled the first and third in the opening Premier Handicap Hurdle for stayers on the card. Gwennie May Boy, a progressive horse for the yard but the stable’s apparent second string, ran out a ready winner from Lord Snootie. Back in third was the favourite West Balboa ahead of Albert Bartlett flop Johnnywho bouncing back and Pertemps Final winner Monmiral in fifth.

Turners Mersey Novices’ Hurdle Result (1:55)

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Brighterdaysahead Jack Kennedy Gordon Elliott 7½ lengths 6/5F
2nd Staffordshire Knot Sam Ewing Gordon Elliott 4¼ lengths 20/1
3rd Bugise Seagull Sean Bowen Charlie Longsdon nose 40/1

The first favourite of Grand National day results obliged in the second race as Brighterdaysahead went one better than at Cheltenham. As the sole mare in the line-up, Gordon Elliott’s Gigginstown House Stud runner relished stepping backing up in trip and routed the geldings under Jack Kennedy.

Brighterdaysahead shot clear of owner-stable companion Staffordshire Knot with fellow outsider Bugise Seagull just hanging on to third. Those placed behind Ballyburn in the Baring Bingham during the Cheltenham Festival, Jimmy Du Seuil and Il Atlantique, let the form down somewhat here.

William Hill Freebooter Handicap Chase Result (2:30)

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Cruz Control Stan Sheppard Tom Lacey 1 length 9/1
2nd Sam Brown Freddie Gingell [5] Anthony Honeyball 1¼ lengths 20/1
3rd Forward Plan Ben Godfrey [3] Anthony Honeyball 5½ lengths 13/2
4th Kinondo Kwetu Jonathan England Sam England 4¾ lengths 25/1

A frontrunning ride on Cruz Control paid off for jockey Stan Sheppard and trainer Tom Lacey in the Freebooter. He held off Anthony Honeyball pair Sam Brown and Forward Plan and prevailed by a length. Back in fourth was Kinondo Kwetu, ahead of Ultima runner-up Twig. What most Aintree Grand National day results may not tell you is the disappointing displays from favourite The King Of Ryhope and another fancy Crebilly.

JRL Group Liverpool Hurdle Result (3:05)

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Strong Leader Sean Bowen Olly Murphy 4¼ lengths 8/1
2nd Buddy One Jack Gilligan Paul Gilligan ½ a length 15/2
3rd Hiddenvalley Lake Rachael Blackmore Henry De Bromhead 13 lengths 5/1

Cleeve Hurdle third Strong Leader took his form to a new level despite a hurdling technique that left a lot to be desired. He landed the Liverpool Hurdle under Sean Bowen from Irish raiders Buddy One and Hiddenvalley. Grand National day results yet again had the frontrunning Flooring Porter not able to maintain the gallop up front as he faded into fifth behind Monkfish.

Veteran dual Liverpool Hurdle winner Sire Du Berlais didn’t defend his crown after being pulled out on the morning of the race. This felt like a changing of the guard with Champ pulling up and fellow standing dish Dashel Drasher only seventh, well adrift of Hewick.

A second Grand National win for Willie Mullins saw Paul Townend pilot I Am Maximus to an Irish and Aintree double. He bolted up from Delta Work and Minella Indo with Galvin rounding off a 1-2-3-4 for the Emerald Isle. Kitty’s Light was the best of the British, but only fifth for Welsh trainer Christian Williams. Grand National day results report a huge number of finishers with 21 completing the famous course.

Maghull Novices’ Chase Result (5:00)

Position Silks Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Bective Stud silks Found A Fifty Jack Kennedy Gordon Elliott head 5/4F
2nd Master Chewy silks Master Chewy Tom Bellamy Nigel Twiston-Davies 11 lengths 10/1
3rd Rucker silks Libberty Hunter Harry Cobden Evan Williams ¾ of a length 33/1

A Grade 1 double for Kennedy and Elliott came courtesy of Found A Fifty, who went one better than the Arkle. He had to battle for it, just outstaying Master Chewvy to get up. The runner-up was a faller at the Cheltenham Festival with the front two pulling well clear of Libberty Hunter, who kept on into third ahead of the returning Hercule Du Seuil.

Grade 2 Aintree Bumper Result (5:35)

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP
1st Horaces Pearl Conor Brace Fergal O’Brien 1 lengths 14/1
2nd Tripoli Flyer Paddy Brennan Fergal O’Brien 1¼ lengths 13/2
3rd Good And Clever James Bowen Warren Greatrex 1½ lengths 14/1

The last of Grand National day results saw Fergal O’Brien saddle a 1-2 in the Aintree Bumper with Horaces Pearl just nabbing stable companion Tripoli Flyer close home after the runner-up travelled strongly from the top of the home straight. Those two were clear of Good And Clever for the Warren Greatrex stable in a race where unbeaten favourite Mister Meggit had no luck in-running whatsoever.
