Gordon Elliott With 11 Runners On Cheltenham Day 1

Gordon Elliott has been the top trainer before at both the 2017 & 2018 Cheltenham Festivals. In 2017, he won six races, including three seconds and three third place finishes too. The following year in 2018, Elliott again had a strong year boasting an incredible eight wins, one second and six thirds. The Irish racing trainer will be hoping to replicate this form with a stellar showing at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

Elliott has 25 winners to his name in the Cheltenham Festival over the years. However, he has won just one of the ‘big’ Cheltenham races before. This year, he will be hoping for more with some outstanding horses on show across the four days.

On Day 1, Gordon Elliott has 11 runners on Tuesday 14th March. These rides include Doctor Bravo who contests the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Hollow Games in the Arkle, The Goffer in the Ultima Handicap Chase and Zanahiyr in the Champion Hurdle.

Elliott also has seven more runners on Day 1, with Queens Brook in the Mares’ Hurdle and three runners in both the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle and Amateur Jockey’s Novices’ Chase.

The 2016 Gold Cup winner with Don Cossack doesn’t look to have any of the favourites on Day 1, but can certainly contest some races with horses at big prices. Do not rule any of Elliott’s 11 Day 1 runners out from at least making it into the each-way places.

The Irish trainer believes his best festival chance comes on Thursday with Mighty Potter in the Turners Novices’ Chase. However, he also has a few outside chances too on Day 1 at Cheltenham this year to get off to a flying start.

Elliott is also priced at 15/2 as the second favourite with leading bookmaker BoyleSports to be the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer.
