Gerri Colombe Horse Odds For Cheltenham Gold Cup 2024
Heading into the Savills Chase, Gerri Colombe was the second favourite for the Gold Cup and was well supported in the ante post betting following his hard-fought win at Down Royal on reappearance. He stayed on tremendously under a determined ride from Jack Kennedy, beating Envoi Allen, Conflated and Minella Indo.
However, it was not meant to be when taking on Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown and the Willie Mullins-trained seven-year-old completely blew the field away. Last year’s Gold Cup hero answered all of his critics’ questions when bouncing back to winning ways after an underwhelming couple of defeats to Martin Brassil’s Fastorslow. 
Gerri Colombe is a horse who has already showed that he can stay 3m+ with three wins over that distance in his point and rules career so far, so he could still be worth siding with for the big Cheltenham race.
The best UK horse racing bookmakers seem to think that his chance may have gone after the Savills Chase result, however they could well be right, especially with Galopin Des Champs looking back to his very best.
But with nine wins out of his 11 career starts (two 2nds), Gerri Colombe is still clearly a serious horse, and a longer lay-off before the Gold Cup may suit him better. His reappearance win in November when taking home the Ladbrokes Champion Chase may have taken a lot out of him, so he should not be ruled out just yet.
Gordon Elliott Eyeing Just Second Gold Cup Win
Much to the surprise of many, Gordon Elliott has won just one Cheltenham Gold Cup in his time as a horse racing trainer, and that victory came back in 2016.
The great Don Cossack won as a nine-year-old under Bryan Cooper went sent off as the favourite, becoming just the second Gigginstown House Stud-owned Gold Cup winner.
