Thursday 22nd June 2023 Frankie Dettori Royal Ascot Rides
• 2.30pm – Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) 5f ITV: NO NAY METS @ 5/1 with Paddy Power
Easy winner at Gulfstream Park in the middle of May over 5f – making all that day. Cleary a horse with a lot of speed and expected to make a bold bid from the front. Frankie has won this race four times over the years, with his most recent being A’Ali in 2019. US trainer George Weaver was also on the Royal Ascot scoresheet on Wednesday when his Crimson Advocate won the Queen Mary Stakes.
• 3.05pm – King George V Stakes (Handicap) 1m 4f ITV: BURGLER @ 5/1 with Paddy PowerÂ
Frankie will be hoping to steal the prize with Burglar here and after an easy 2 length win at Redcar looks to have every chance. This Gosden runner has now won two of his three starts while this race is one that the stable last won in 1997, but that came with Frankie riding (his only winner in the race).
• 3.40pm – Ribblesdale Stakes (Group 2) 1m 4f ITV: BLUESTOCKING @ 6/1 with Paddy PowerÂ
This has been a top race for Frankie over the years – winning the prize 8 times in total . This Camelot filly is trained by Ralph Beckett and was a good winner on debut at Salisbury. He then ran well to be second at Newbury in May in a Listed race, which was won by Warm Heart who runs again here too. Might be a tall order taking on Al Asifah, but this Beckett runner is not without a chance with the yard on the scoresheet at the meeting yesterday.
• 4.20pm – Gold Cup (Group 1) 2m 4f ITV: COURAGE MON AMI @ 5/1 with Paddy PowerÂ
Eight wins over the years in the Ascot Gold Cup for Frankie and he’ll certainly have his supporters to make it 9 in what will be his final ride in the race. This 4 year-old will be having only his fourth career run, but has won all three, including over 1m6f last time at Goodwood. Longer trip an unknown but that applies to most in the race and certainly wasn’t stopping last time over 1m6f. Can Frankie’s Gold Cup ride give him a nineth win in the race?
• 5.00pm – Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) 1m (straight) ITV: QUANTUM IMPACT @ 6/1 with Paddy PowerÂ
Another Frankie Royal Ascot ride for trainer Ralph Beckett. Won the last day at York by a length and a 5lb rise for that run looks fair. That last win was also his first try over a mile and so could have more in the locker to come. Frankie’s only win in the Britannia Stakes came back in 1998 on a horse called Plan-B, which was trained by John Gosden.
• 5.35pm – Hampton Court Stakes (Group 3) 1m 2f ITV: EPICTETUS @ 9/2 with Paddy PowerÂ
Won the Listed Blue Riband Trial at Epsom back in April and wasn’t disgraced when 5th in the Dante – beaten just 2 1/4 lengths. Has run since when 5th in the French Derby in early June but eased back into a Group Three here will give this Kingman colt a nice chance. Frankie has won the race 3 times in the past – 1999, 2015 and most recently in 2019 with Sangarius for Sir Michael Stoute.
• 6.10pm – Buckingham Palace Stakes (Handicap) 7f ITV4: UNFORGOTTEN @ 6/1 with Paddy PowerÂ
Frankie back riding for his old employers here – Godolphin. Has won 3 times from 8 races and wasn’t beaten far the last day when third at Newbury over a mile. The drop back to 7f will suit too but does stay further. Frankie Dettori has never won this Royal Ascot race, but trainer John Gosden has – winning the pot in 2002.
