Jordan Spieth sets -7 clubhouse target after low-scoring first round in Memphis
Jordan Spieth carded an impressive bogey-free 63 to take the first-round lead of the opening FedExCup playoff event, including an eagle at the par-5 16th alongside five birdies at TPC Southwind.
South Korean youngster Tom Kim’s meteoric rise within the golfing sphere continues as he shot a six-under 64 to claim outright second after the first 18 holes, with Collin Morikawa and Emiliano Grillo tied for third at five-under.
Conditions were tough and the early tee times were delayed due to adverse weather conditions, meaning preferred lies were in effect for the first round. The weather is expected to improve through the weekend with no rain forecast at the minute.

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy share different experiences with respective new putters
Scheffler’s putting has been the talk of the town all season long and the world number one finally decided to get a new flat stick in the bag in the hopes of finding a bit of form on the greens.
His new TaylorMade Spider Tour X SS Proto helped him gain +0.305 strokes in that department. Scheffler shot three-under to leave him in a tie for 15th but left much to be desired with what looked like an uncomfortable putting stroke – but he’s still getting used to it and showing improvements already.
McIlroy also shot three-under and switched from his trusty TaylorMade Spider to a winged mallet Scotty Cameron Phantom X, but he lost 0.744 strokes putting and ranked 50/70th in the field.
It could’ve been seen as a strange decision for the Irishman to change following seven consecutive weeks of solid form on the greens, and he says he’s got his Spider with him just in case.
