Nashwa & Royal Ascot Continent Among 9 Falmouth Stakes Runners

While George Boughey’s five-year-old mare Via Sistina heads the Falmouth Stakes betting, plenty of others fancy their chances. Nashwa is one of two entered for the John & Thady Gosden yard with last season’s Nassau Stakes heroine engaged alongside stable companion Coppice.

The latter scored Royal Ascot handicap success in the Sandringham Stakes and steps up in grade. Coppice is one of three three-year-old Falmouth Stakes runners receiving 9lb weight for age in the line-up. Coronation Stakes second Remarquee is another for Ralph Beckett.

1. Ameynah

Lightly-raced Exceed And Excel filly not seen since finishing sixth in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket races last year. Bound to need and come on for the run.

2. Astral Beau

Listed winner on reappearance and not disgraced when third to Via Sistina in Group 2 Dahlia Stakes here over further, or in the same spot at Epsom races latest close-up behind Prosperous Voyage. One of the Falmouth Stakes runners that looks vulnerable off these terms to younger legs, however.

3. Nashwa

Dual Group 1 winner including a French Classic and 1m 2f event at Goodwood races during the Glorious meeting last summer. Not matched that level of form since. Career bests over further than this trip, but drops back after being supplemented. Seemingly held by Via Sistina on collateral form with Al Husn. Respected all the same.

4. Prosperous Voyage

Last year’s winner who hasn’t repeated that since. Saw form of Group 3 Epsom success reversed in the Duke Of Cambridge at Royal Ascot latest when Random Harvest finished in front of her. One of the Falmouth Stakes runners with questions to answer with regular jockey suspended.

5. Random Harvest

Italian Group 3 winner last autumn that turned the tables on Prosperous Voyage from Epsom when runner-up in the Duke Of Cambridge at the Royal meeting latest. Improving five-year-old doesn’t have age on her side, but going the right way.

6. Via Sistina

Fastnet Rock mare who’s been better than ever in landing Group 2 Dahlia Stakes here on the Rowley Mile over nine furlongs and a Group 1 in Ireland latest. A hold-up ride and top on ratings. Drop back in distance by a quarter-mile the only question she has to answer. Clear favourite from the Falmouth Stakes runners this year.

7. Coppice

Three from four on the track including length success in a valuable fillies’ handicap at Royal Ascot latest. Makes major step up in grade and flopped when a beaten favourite in the Group 3 Nell Gwun here on reappearance. Retains potential for further progress and worth a go in pattern company.

8. Never Ending Story

Highly-tried Dubawi filly and dual Leopardstown Group 3 winner at 7f. Campaigned in French Classics, finishing fifth in their equivalent of the Guineas and second in the Prix de Diane. No obvious reason why she should reverse Pretty Polly form with Via Sistina when seventh latest.

9. Remarquee

Winner of a Newbury Group 3 Classic Trial on reappearance who flopped in the 1000 Guineas. Show that wasn’t her true running, however, with major career best when second in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot latest. If adjusting official ratings to factor in weight for age, she comes out best of all Falmouth Stakes runners this year.
