Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has said that the club is looking to keep Jude Bellingham for as long as possible, but admits that it’s ‘wishful thinking’ as clubs circle starlet.

The Jude Bellingham transfer-saga is one that has gone on for several transfer windows now, and Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has now provided an update on the club’s intentions for the player.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid and PSG have all long been linked with the 19-year-old.

A move to the Premier League has looked the most likely for the youngster, with Real Madrid reportedly losing hope of signing him.

Sebastian Kehl’s Comments

Sebastian Kehl has confirmed that there have been no new developments in terms of the Stourbridge-born midfielder’s future.

“There has been no new development. We’ll have to be patient for a little longer,” Kehl told German media.

“But of course we try to keep Jude Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund as long as possible because he is an incredibly important player who has shown once again this season how he identifies with this club and makes the team better.”

Bellingham has gone from strength to strength at Dortmund, and has even been made the club’s third choice captain.

Kehl went on to compare the Bellingham situation to the situations Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho were once in when they were contracted to Dortmund.

“Things develop due to market mechanisms. So of course I have my thoughts and also have my wishful thinking. I can’t say whether that will happen in the end.

“From Borussia Dortmund’s point of view, the wishful thinking would be to keep a player of this quality at this club for as long as possible. I would also like to have kept Erling Haaland or Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund, because you can only imagine if we had managed to keep all three players in one team, what opportunities would then arise.

“We will always try everything to keep players of this quality at BVB – because we are ambitious, because we want to win titles. For this we need not only good, but also outstanding players.”
