Coltrane is expected to be one of the main 2023 Ascot Gold Cup betting hopes ahead of the June 22nd race for the Andrew Balding yard. The gelding is one of the biggest fancies for the featured race at Royal Ascot and is currently the betting favourite to win the 2023 Ascot Gold Cup.
This 6-year-old was last seen at Ascot last month when winning the Longines Sagaro Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths in the Gold Cup trial. The gelding looks a mightily impressive horse, having won seven of his 18 racing starts. It comes as no surprise to see Coltrane as the leading market contenders for the 2023 Gold Cup.
Prior to Coltrane’s win last month around this course, his last win before that was at Doncaster in the Doncaster Cup Stakes. He won by a neck to the heavy favourite Trueshan, staying on well inside the final furlong. He also won the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot last year as a 14/1 shot, as well as winning by 10 lengths at Sandown in the Coral Marathon last July.
Coltrane is down 5lb from his last outing at Ascot last month, running off 9st 4lb this afternoon in the Gold Cup. The 6-year-old certainly has every chance of adding to last year’s Ascot Stakes triumph this time around in the coveted Gold Cup.
