Former England forward Chris Sutton has delivered his prediction for Chelsea vs Liverpool, “reluctantly” backing a Blues victory due to Jurgen Klopp’s side being “so bad in midfield”.

Tuesday evening will see four Premier League ties played out, with Chelsea vs Liverpool being the pick of the bunch.

The pair were swept aside in their previous league outing. Chelsea were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa, as Manchester City came from behind to batter the Reds 4-1.

It was a result that saw Graham Potter’s time at Stamford Bridge come to an end. The Blues confirmed his departure despite still being in the Champions League quarter-finals.

His sacking was confirmed in a statement by the club.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea,” said co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

“We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome.”

Bruno Saltor will temporarily take charge of the Blues while the search for Potter’s successor gets underway.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are also in terrible form.

Since defeating Manchester United 7-0 at the start of March, the Reds have failed to score a goal, losing all three matches since.

Plenty of predictions for Tuesday night’s tie have been offered, including that of former England and Celtic forward Chris Sutton.

Chris Sutton Chelsea vs Liverpool Prediction

“Saturday’s defeat at Manchester City was as poor a performance as I can remember from Liverpool. It was a completely one-sided game.” Sutton said in his BBC Sport column.

“The most astonishing thing about seeing that happen is that we know City can do it to most teams in the Premier League, but Liverpool have been their greatest rivals in the past five seasons. Not any more, because there is a tremendous gulf between the two teams.

“Defensively and in midfield, Jurgen Klopp’s side were an absolute shambles so how can I back them to win at Stamford Bridge?

“Equally, though, why would I back Chelsea to beat anyone at the moment? I made that mistake again at the weekend, when they huffed and puffed against Villa in Graham Potter’s final game as manager.” Sutton continued.

“I do think the Blues are better when Ben Chilwell is in the team, but they still don’t take their chances.

“This has got a draw written all over it but I am going to resist the temptation to say 1-1 and pick a winner. I am going to go for Chelsea, reluctantly, on the basis that Liverpool are so bad in midfield.”
