There is lots to like about last year’s winner SOME CHAOS @ 7/2 with Virgin Bet repeating the dose. Michael Scudamore’s runner goes well fresh and off 2lb lower in the weights for a successful defence of his crown here. A consistent performer in these veterans’ races last season, he likes the forecast good ground.
Topweight Cloth Cap is now 4lb below when last successful for the Jonjo O’Neill Sr and Jr team. Now debuting in a veterans’ race, the 2020 Ladbrokes Trophy hero is another who loves a sound surface. Well-treated on his Newbury and Kelso races wins of the season before last, the only negative is Tom Scudamore’s absence from the saddle.
The Mighty Don is 7lb below his last winning mark over this course and distance in 2020 but hasn’t scored since. Even now in veterans’ company for the first time, there is a definite question whether this race is far enough for Nick Gifford’s charge. Other Chepstow tips appeal.
Reasons to take on Dennis veterans
David Dennis saddles two but there are reasons to take both on. Brian Hughes rides Innisfree Lad, a horse that wants further and is 3lb higher than when last successful. Stable companion Broken Quest has run well over this kind of trip but, without Jack Andrews taking 5lb off, is effectively 15lb above his previous winning mark with Tom Bellamy aboard.
Tom George’s Forgot To Ask goes well fresh, so may have more to offer after 111 days off. He looks better each way value on the best betting sites than the Dennis duo or The Mighty Don. The out of form bottom weight and busily campaigned Al Roc can be discounted.

2:10 – Unibet Persian War Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m 3½f ITV4

There’s a sense that the top two on ratings, Quid Pro Quo and Presentandcounting, haven’t beaten a great deal. Value in the betting and Chepstow tips lies elsewhere, and the answer might just be OUTLAW PETER @ 15/2 with Virgin Bet. It’s hard to get away from trainer Paul Nicholls’ phenomenal record in this race with eight career wins.
Outlaw Peter’s Navan bumper second to Three Stripe Life, a subsequent Grade 1 novice hurdle hero, prior to joining Ditcheat reads very well. His third at Sandown races behind Constitution Hill also looks good form with the horse that split them, Might I, filling second at Aintree behind Three Stripe Life in the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle during the Grand National meeting. Outlaw Peter may be better than a mark of 118 for sure.
Scipion solid each way value & Deeper Blue respected
Deeper Blue ended last season in form with consecutive wins. Harry Fry’s charge chased home subsequent Newbury races Grade 1 Challow scorer Stage Star here last year. Earlier in his career, Deeper Blue was a staying on fifth behind the 2021 Persian War runner-up Luttrell Lad in a Taunton bumper too.
Tom Lacey saddles the only previous course winner in the line-up, Scipion, who has fascinating back form. His placed efforts in Points on both sides of the Irish Sea read well, particularly his second to Leopardstown Grade 1 runner-up Minella Crooner.
Scipion also placed twice at this level last winter and chased home Jetoile, another subsequent second at the highest level behind Constitution Hill in the Tolworth. He looks value each among Chepstow tips for the Persian War this year.

In addition to these long-term stats, it’s worth knowing that Philip Hobbs has trained two of the last three Persian War winners (he’s saddled six to victory in all). Five of the last six successful horses also landed the spoils after a break. Check out these Chepstow trends:
