Who Has More Career Earnings – State Man or Constitution Hill?

One of the big Cheltenham Festival day one highlights will see round two of the Champion Hurdle – Constitution Hill vs State Man clash.

Last year it was the Nicky Henderson-trained Constitution Hill that put State Man firmly in his place with a facile 9-length win (watch below).

That win saw the Seven Barrows handler win the day one feature for a nineth time and in the process won £253,215.00 in Cheltenham prize money – which was £157,815 more than State Man banked for coming second (£95,400).

However, despite this big win – did you know Constitution Hill still HASN’T won as much as State Man in his career?

State Man Has Won £124k MORE Than Constitution Hill

The Willie Mullins-trained State Man might have played second fiddle to Constitution Hill in the 2023 Champion Hurdle, but he’s raced five more times than the Henderson horse and also holds a 10-8 win record over him.

State Man backed just over £56k for winning the 2022 County Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, but the bulk of his career prize money has come in Ireland. Including having won 112k x 2 for winning the last two Irish Champion Hurdles at the Dublin Racing Festival (watch below).

While he’s also won 88k x 2 for taking the last two Grade One Matheson Hurdles and add in five more wins then he’s repaid his owner Joe Donnelly handsomely.

In total State Man has won EIGHT Grade One races and has career earnings of £856,206.

Constitution Hill Can Overtake State Man In The Prize Money Stakes With Another Champion Hurdle Win

Constitution Hill added another £74,035 when winning the Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day – taking his current tally to £731,642.

However, even though Constitution Hill trails State Man by £124,564 this can quickly change if Nicky Henderson’s unbeaten star can win his second Champion Hurdle on Tuesday 12th March.

The Cheltenham prize money for the Champion Hurdle 2024 is £253,215 and even if State Man comes second again, the difference will be enough to see Constitution Hill go back to the top of this prize money head-to-head.

It will also mean that Constitution Hill will be just £15,143 short of breaking the £1m barrier should he retain his Champion Hurdle title.

Constitution Hill is the long odds-on favourite with the best UK horse racing betting sites in the 2024 Champion Hurdle.
