Chelsea vs Crystal Palace (2-1) Report: Noni Madueke Bags Second Premier League Goal

Both sides came into tonight’s Premier League clash desperate for three points. Chelsea had lost three of their last four outings in the league, whilst Palace haven’t won in almost two months – with their last victory coming against Burnley at the beginning of November.

The hosts took the lead inside the opening 15 minutes when Christopher Nkunku played Malo Gusto down the byline before the defender squared the ball across goal into the path of Mykhaylo Mudryk to score his second goal in the last three in all competitions.

On the stroke of half-time, Palace marksman Michael Olise netted his third goal since returning from injury in November. The 22-year-old, who almost joined Chelsea in the summer, controlled Jordan Ayew’s delivery on the chest and fired home on the half volley.

With just under 15 minutes to play, Nicolas Jackson thought he’d given the Blues a deserved lead before VAR intervened and ruled out the goal for offside to disappoint Stamford Bridge.

Three minutes from injury time, Noni Madueke won a penalty and stepped up from 12 yards to win the match for Chelsea with just his second Premier League goal and hand Mauricio Pochettino‘s side a huge three points.

What Next For Chelsea & Crystal Palace?

Up next for Chelsea is a trip to relegation threatened Luton Town in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon, which should be nothing more than a routine outing for the visitors. When the pair met in August, the Blues ran away comfortable 3-0 winners.

As for Palace, Roy Hodgson’s men are now eight games without a win in the Premier League and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the veteran manager relieved of his duties. Saturday’s match-up at home to Brentford will be decisive for his future at the club.
