Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez who has fallen out-of-favour under Roberto De Zerbi and is currently training with the under-18s.

Mauricio Pochettino may soon have a new goalkeeper at his disposal soon, as Brighton stopper Robert Sanchez is now believed to be Chelsea‘s front runner in terms of goalkeeping targets.

The Blues have been looking to sign another option in goal after Edouard Mendy departed for the Saudi Pro League earlier in the window, but have struggled due to the prices of their targets.

According to the Evening Standard, interest in Sanchez comes amid goalkeeper coach Ben Roberts arriving at Stamford Bridge, who previously worked with the goalkeeper at Brighton.

Roberts is said to be a huge fan of the 25-year-old, whilst Pochettino has also given the move his blessing.

Sanchez lost his starting berth at the Amex towards the end of last season, and was replaced in goal by Jason Steele.

De Zerbi’s side have since signed Dutchman Bart Verbruggen as another option between the sticks, almost certainly confirming the end of Sanchez’ Seagulls career.

As it stands, he has been excluded from first-team training, and is currently training with the under-18s side.

A move to Chelsea would likely see him deputise for Kepa Arrizabalaga initially, but with Kepa’s patchy record of keeping the number one shirt at Stamford Bridge – Sanchez would likely be able to cement the shirt as his own if given the opportunity.

In terms of Blues departures, Callum Hudson-Odoi wants to exit in order to play regular first-team football, however Fulham have seen two bids rejected for the winger, whilst interest from Juventus and Saudi Arabia remains for Romelu Lukaku.
