Jarred Gillett has been announced as the referee for Saturday’s Premier League clash between Burnley and Arsenal.
Gunners fans on X, formerly Twitter, are strongly questioning the decision as Gillett is rumoured to be a Liverpool supporter.
Whether there is any truth in the claims remains to be seen. Furthermore, Gillett came under fire earlier this season as the north Londoners lost to Aston Villa.
A late equaliser was ruled out by VAR that night at Villa Park. Fans of Mikel Arteta’s side really don’t appear happy with the decision ahead of Saturday’s clash.
Darren Cann and Dan Robathan will be Gillett’s assistants. Simon Hooper will act as fourth official with Paul Tierney and Scott Ledger on VAR duties.

Gillett booked six players that evening, showing yellow cards to Arsenal stars Oleksandr Zinchenko and Declan Rice.

Gillett’s busiest games came in Luton’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and Manchester United‘s 4-3 win at Wolves. Seven players were booked in each fixture.
Four penalties have been awarded by Gillett in 2023/24. He actually gave two in the same game. Brighton’s 4-2 win over Tottenham in December saw Joao Pedro net both times from 12 yards.
