According to the Sun, Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix will not return to his parent club this summer, opting to extend his loan with Chelsea for a further year.

This comes despite the Blues failing to secure Champions League qualification, and European qualification altogether.

Felix has long said that Chelsea’s Champions League status would be a factor in whether he’d return to Atleti.

But the prospect of playing in the Premier League for a full season clearly weighs more bearing than the Champions League for the Portuguese forward amid this news.

Diego Simeone has reportedly moved on from Felix, and would like his Stamford Bridge move to become a permanent one.

However, Atletico chiefs are believed to be looking for around £88m for the 23-year-old – something Chelsea aren’t too keen on paying, so a second loan is the likely outcome.

Felix is said to be settled in London following his January move, but wants assurances of game time from expected incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino before he makes his final decision.

Since Frank Lampard’s arrival, the Portuguese international has fallen somewhat out-of-favour.

The forward has failed to start any of Chelsea’s last three Premier League matches, being named on the bench in all three.

Felix has made 12 Premier League appearances since joining the Blues, scoring just twice.

Perhaps his most memorable moment in a Chelsea top so far, was his first English top-flight goal against London rivals West Ham.
