1.30 – Ascot Underwriting Chase (A Novices´ Limited Handicap) Cl3 2m3f ITV4
- 1. GOSHEN 2. Samarrive 3. Gowel Road
GOSHEN @ 11/10 with VirginBet is the class act here as Gary Moore’s decent hurdler makes his debut over fences. The 6 year-old has had his critics over the years but could make into a very interesting recruit to the larger obstacles. Still only 6 years-old and will be match-fit for this after a solid second on the flat at Goodwood earlier this month, plus the stable have also won this race twice since 2017.
Just three others and they all get a stack of weight from Goshen, which brings them all into play, but the Nicholls-trained Samarrive and Gowel Road, who has had the benefit of a recent run, can do best.
- Key Trends
- 9 previous runnings
- 9/9 – Aged 7 or younger
- 8/9 – Returned 6/1 or shorter in the betting
- 7/9 – Irish bred
- 7/9 – Yet to win over fences
- 5/9 – Aged 6 year-old
- 3/9 – Had run at Ascot before
- 3/9 – Winning favourites
- 2/9 – Trained by Gary Moore (2 of the last 5)
- 2/9 – Ridden by Jamie Moore (2 of the last 5)

2.05 – Bateaux London Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) Cl1 2m ITV4
- 1. CALL OF THE WILD 2. Hacker Des Places 3. Bromfield Burg
CALL OF THE WILD @ 5/1 with VirginBet can give trainer Alan King his fourth win in this race since 2012 and his third since 2017. This JP McManus runner has won two of his four starts over hurdles and had and excuse last time at Cheltenham over 2m 4f, when third of 8, after being treated for heat stress after the race. The drop back here to 2m will also be a plus.
It’s also a race the Nicholls and Henderson yard have done well in so two of their runners – Hacker Des Places (Nicholls) and Broomfield Burg (Henderson), who is another JP McManus entry, can also make their presence felt.

2.40 – Byrne Group Handicap Chase (Listed Race) Cl1 2m1f ITV4
- 1. MONSIEUR LECOQ 2. Diego Du Charmil 3. Amoola Gold
MONSIEUR LECOQ (e/w) @ 7/1 with VirginBet took this race 12 months ago and looks to have another good chance of following up off a 2lbs lower mark. He’s also got just 10-8 to carry and certainly won’t mind it if there’s any more rain. A recent fourth at Chepstow would have blown away the cobwebs and should be spot on for his title defence.
Trainer Venetia Williams has a fine record in the race, so her Frero Banbou has to be considered, but we’ve actually also got two other past winners in the race with Diego Du Charmil, who won the first prize in 2017 and Amoola Gold, who lived up to his name in 2020.
- Key Trends
- 16/19 – Aged 8 years-old or younger
- 13/19 – Returned 13/2 or shorter in the betting
- 13/19 – Irish (5) or French (8) bred
- 13/19 – Had won between 1-3 times over fences before
- 11/19 – Carried 11-1 or less in weight
- 10/19 – Having their first run of the new season
- 8/19 – Rated 130 or lower
- 8/19 – Unplaced favourites
- 6/19 – Won last time out
- 5/19 – Aged 8 years-old
- 4/19 – Ran at either Ascot (2) or Aintree (2) last time out
- 4/19 – Won carrying 11-12
- 4/19 – Trained by Paul Nicholls
- 3/19 – Winning favourites
- 3/19 – Trained by Venetia Williams
- 5 of the last 6 winners were aged 7
- Monsieur Lecoq (11/1) won the race in 2021

- Diego Du Charmil (13/2) won the race in 2019

3.15 – Bateaux London Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Grade 3) Cl1 3m ITV4
- 1. FULL BACK (e/w) 2. Tea Clipper 3. Regal Encore
FULL BACK (e/w) @ 9/1 with VirginBet represents the Gary Moore yard that have a fine record in this race – winning the prize three times since 2016. This 7 year-old has won three of his 10 chase starts and despite running down the field in the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last time had been running well before that. He’s been freshened up with 7 1/2 months off and with the top strike-rate in the race for the Moore camp has to be respected.
Tea Clipper will be fitter than most after a second at Chepstow earlier this month, while the old boy Regal Encore, who is now 14, won this race in 2020 and is 9lbs lower this time, plus was also third 12 months ago off a 13lb higher rating.
