Saturday’s QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot is all set up to be a ‘crackerjack’ of a contest with the unbeaten Baaeed, who is racing for the last time, taking on last season’s Epsom Derby and King George winner Adayar – Britain’s richest race is not to be missed!

Baaeed Puts Unbeaten Record On The Line For The Last Time
Baaeed has won ALL 10 starts during his time on the track and he’s set to bow out this Saturday on a fabulous career this Saturday in the Ascot Champion Stakes hoping to remain unbeaten and take his tally to 11-from-11.
The William Haggas-trained 4 year-old will be off to stud after the Champion Stakes, which is Britain’s richest race with £737,230 on offer to the winner. The second even gets a cool £279,500 and the third £139,880, but Baaeed will only be interested in the main prize here, which will take his career earnings over the £3m mark (he’s currently won £2,622,282 in total prize money.
Baaeed was last seen in action at York when stepping up to 1m2 1/2 for the first time with a runaway win in the Group One Juddmonte Stakes (watch below).
The Sea The Stars colt clearly loved the extra yardage, having raced over a mile in all 9 starts prior to the at York win – beating the classy Mishriff by 6 1/2 lengths.
Softer ground at Ascot on Saturday could be on the cards, and if so this will test Baaeed’s stamina further, but breeding suggests the underfoot conditions will be fine and he’s won four times on good-to-soft.
Baaeed The Odds On Champion Stakes Favourite
The bookies are also taking no chances again with Baaeed and have installed the world’s second-highest rated horse in training as the clear odds-on favourite for Saturday’s Champion Stakes @ 2/9 with 888Sport.

2021 Derby Winner Adayar Returned To Form Last Time
The main horse that can spoil the ‘Baaeed Party’ this Saturday looks to be the ‘back-to-form’ Charlie Appleby-trained Adayar.
Last year’s Epsom Derby and King George winner has had a few training setbacks but is still only a 4 year-old and returned to the track last month with a smooth win at Doncaster in a Conditions race (watch below).
Prior to that run Adayar was seen running 4th in the 2021 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and after that ran in this race 12 months ago. But having been sent off a well-fancied 5/2 shot could only manage 5th behind the 2021 Champion Stakes winner Sealiway (watch below).
He’s, therefore, got some unfinished business to deal with in this race – being beaten 7 lengths, but with the mighty Baaeed in the race this time you feel the task for this Godolphin Classic winner is harder than last year – we’ll see.

Runs: 9
Wins: 4
Group One Wins: 2
Career Winnings: £1,479,602
A Huge Race In The Flat Trainers’ Title
With the William Haggas and Charlie Appleby yards also locked in a battle for the flat trainers’ title, there is an added sub-plot to Saturday’s Champion Stakes – Haggas trains Baaeed and Appleby looks after Adayar.
Both yards have banked just over £5m in prize money this season, but with £700k on offer to the winner of Saturday’s Ascot Champion Stakes, then it’s clear that his contest will have a huge bearing on the outcome on which trainer comes out top this season.
