According to reports, Arsenal are monitoring Barcelona forward Ferran Torres, with Aston Villa also said to be interested.

The report comes from talkSPORT, who claim the La Liga giants may be forced to sell the Spaniard in the summer.

Barcelona are looking to bring Lionel Messi back to the Camp Nou in the summer, creating the need to raise funds – which could see Torres shown the exit.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is said to be a long-term admirer of the forward and has been put on alert by his potential availability.

Aston Villa though, are close to appointing Barca’s director of football Mateu Alemany. This could hand the Villans a major boost in their pursuit of Torres.

Alemany’s move to Villa Park shows clear ambition from the owners, with the club expecting to heavily back Unai Emery in the upcoming transfer window.

Torres joined Barcelona from Manchester City in January of last year, for a fee of around £55m.

His move has been somewhat underwhelming, but he has now become a regular starter for the Blaugrana this term.

Throughout the 2022/23 season, the 23-year-old has made 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring just seven and assisting twice.

He has also become a regular starter for the Spanish national team. Torres featured in all four of their matches at the recent World Cup in Qatar, and scored twice in their opener versus Costa Rica.

Valued at around £30m, per Transfermarktthe forward still has four years remaining on his current contract.

This will almost certainly see his transfer value boosted, with Arsenal and Villa likely to have to pay a hefty figure to secure his signature.
