Arsenal will face competition from Manchester United to sign La Liga star Martin Zubimendi – but the player is putting all transfer talk on hold until the summer.

Zubimendi has a tough decision to make on whether to leave Real Sociedad this year. The defensive midfielder is one of the top targets for the Gunners and SportsLens sources have revealed that United are also going to track his situation across the coming months.

The Spaniard has previously turned down a move to Barcelona, such is his love for Sociedad, and this season he is determined to help them as they attempt to reach the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.

The White and Blues face Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 and Zubimendi has pledged to stay beyond this transfer window to help the club as they attempt to pull off a European shock.

It also gives him time to properly weigh up his future, and decide whether he wants to move to the Premier League – and if so, where.

Zubimendi has a release clause of £51.5million and as such, it would suit the likes of Mikel Arteta‘s side and the Red Devils better to make a move for the player in the summer.

The 24-year old is understood to be Arteta’s preferred target in midfield as he considers how to move forward. The Arsenal boss has also looked at the likes of Douglas Luiz and Amadou Onana.

United have big decisions to make on their midfield reshape. We told today how they are not planning to keep Sofyan Amrabat beyond this season and in line with that, Zubimendi is a player that is being monitored as a target for the summer window.
