Arsenal will be without key defender William Saliba for Wednesday’s crunch clash with rivals Manchester City, in a huge blow to their hopes of capturing the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004.

Saliba has missed Arsenal’s last five games after injuring his back against Sporting Lisbon in the Europa League and it seems Rob Holding will once again be required to deputise against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will give an update on the Frenchman’s condition in his pre-match news conference on Tuesday amid fears the 22-year-old could miss the rest of the season.

Saliba was ever present in the Premier League prior to his setback. Across his 27 matches, Arsenal conceded 0.9 goals per game compared to 1.8 goals without him.
Their 77.8% win rate has slumped to a lowly 40% and their points per game has dropped from 2.4 to 1.8.
Former Aston Villa striker has been less than impressed with Holding since he has stepped in to deputise, labelling the former Bolton man a ‘Championship quality defender’.
“For me, he’s a Championship defender,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT. “Not good enough to be third choice for a Premier League team trying to win the title.
“Since Saliba’s been injured they’ve conceded nine goals in three games. That’s not good enough”
Despite drawing their last three games, Arsenal still lead the Premier League by five points from Manchester City.
However, the Cityzens have two games in hand, making Wednesday’s meeting effectively do-or-die for the Gunners.
