Arsenal Could Reach an English Football Milestone With Victory at Everton This Weekend

Arsenal will, first and foremost, be looking to at least temporarily open up an eight point gap at the Premier League’s summit, but a victory against Everton would also see them set a new record in English football.

Everton welcome Arsenal for Saturday’s early kick off for a match-up between two of the top tier’s stalwarts, with the Toffees and the Gunners among a group of clubs never to have been relegated from the Premier League.

The pair also hold the top two records for the longest ongoing stint in the top-flight, with this weekend’s hosts last dropping to the second division in 1955, while Arsenal have been amongst the country’s top teams for over 100 years.

With a long history of head-to-heads over the past 70 years, 202 meetings to be exact, Everton have claimed victory on just 60 occasions, with 43 fixtures ending in a share of the spoils.

However, Arsenal can reach an English football milestone should Mikel Arteta mastermind another win this weekend, and become the first ever side to win 100 games against any given opponent.

For how much longer this top-flight rivalry will continue remains to be seen with Everton languishing all the way down in 19th place, and they are among a select few to be heavily favoured for the drop across Premier League betting sites.

The Gunners will of course head to Merseyside fully expectant for all three points, but the appointment of former Burnley manager Sean Dyche may inject a new lease of life into Goodison Park.

He will be in the dugout for the first time since replacing Frank Lampard last week, and the typically bullish new arrival holds a promising record against Arsenal, having only lost once in his previous five games while at the helm.

Better yet, the Toffees have won three of the last four meetings, including a memorable last-gasp victory in the repeat of this fixture last season.
