Liverpool are reportedly interested in a move for Argentine World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister after being rejected by Brighton in January.

Alexis Mac Allister enjoyed an incredible World Cup campaign. On Argentina’s road to the title, he chipped in with a goal and an assist.

Upon returning to Brighton, rumours of a move for Mac Allister were far and wide. Several top European clubs were said to have an interest in signing the midfielder.

One of the clubs who made a move for the 24-year-old in January is Liverpool. It is believed that the Seagulls believed rejected the approach for World Cup winner.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now said be revisiting the potential move, and are eyeing a transfer this summer.

Liverpool have long been after some midfield reinforcements. A move for English midfielder Jude Bellingham has been constant rumour for the Reds.

They will face stern competition for the signature of Mac Allister however. The likes of Juventus, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea are all said to be interested in a move for the Argentine.

Mac Allister still has two years remaining on his contract, therefore a move would likely not come cheap for any successful party in his transfer.

Brighton’s resistance to selling their key players may be a factor in the former Boca Juniors midfielder’s transfer too. The club refused to sell Moises Caicedo to Arsenal in January despite the Gunners reportedly bidding upwards of £70m for the Ecuadorian.

There is good news for Reds fans, however. Carlos Mac Allister – the father of Alexis, has claimed that there is an agreement with Brighton that the midfielder will depart in the summer.

“We all know that in July there will be opportunities for him to leave, but prior to the World Cup, Alexis renewed his contract so that the club can also have the opportunity to make an important sale so that money can reach Brighton. That is the idea.” said Carlos.
