This season’s 1000 Guineas runner-up Tahiyra will be the big danger to Paddington. This Dermot Weld runner has since won the Coronation Stakes here at Royal Ascot and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. The main event – the Champion Stakes – will see last year’s slightly surprising winner Bay Bridge (watch below) back for more – this Sir Michael Stoute runner will be looking to become the first ‘back-to-back’ winner since Cracksman in 2017 and 2018.
He’ll face a stern challenge from the Epsom Derby runner-up King Of Steel, Juddmonte International Stakes winner Mostahdaf and the likely favourite and French raider – Horizon Dore – who has won his last four, including the Prix Dollar last time out at Longchamp.
In terms of the trends, 3 and 4 year-olds have had the best record of late, while note a top three finish last time out and having won at least 4 times – something two-time winner King Of Steel falls down on.
