The 2023 Epsom Derby will have a new temporary time of 1:30pm for 2023, to avoid clashing with the big FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United.
2023 Epsom Derby Will Be Run at 1:30pm
The Betfred Epsom Derby is one of the horse racing highlights of the year, but in 2023 the English Classic is having to compromise in order to not clash with the FA Cup Final at Wembley on the same day.
In a normal year, the Derby would be staged at 4:30pm, but the big Epsom race has been brought forward by 3 hours to avoid conflicting with the 2023 FA Cup Final – both are on Saturday June 3rd.
With the footy final also being staged at Wembley, then organisers of both events will also have one eye on the travel situation with the capital expected to be a busy place for sporting fans that day.
Even though Epsom racecourse is in Surrey, many racing fans travel into London or from the capital to get to the track.
FA Cup Final Expected to Kick-Off At 3pm
The last three FA Cup finals were played between 4:30pm and 5:30pm – which would have been bang on the normal Epsom Derby time of 4:30pm.
However, it’s reported that this year’s FA Cup Final will be moved to the old traditional 3pm time, as it’s deemed a high-risk match with City and United big rivals.
Therefore, to avoid any sort of clash the Epsom racecourse officials and the Jockey Club have decided on bringing their feature race right forward to 1:30pm.
