The 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets going on Tuesday 14th March and already leading bookmaker William Hill are going non-runner, no bet on ALL races, plus are offering five places on the handicap races.
2023 Cheltenham Festival: William Hill Go Non-Runner, No Bet on ALL Races
Top UK bookmaker William Hill were the first to break rank ahead of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and offer their customers NON-RUNNER, NO BET on all the Cheltenham Festival races at the 2023 four day meeting.
William Hill unlocked their non-runner, no bet offer to customers from noon on New Year’s Day, with stakes refunded if any 2023 Cheltenham Festival selection does not run in the chosen race that the bet was placed in.
With the 2023 Cheltenham Festival getting going on Tuesday 14th March, there is still around 10 weeks until the tapes go up for the first race – the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle – but William Hill have decided to offer ‘non-runner, no bet’ on all races a full month earlier than then did last year.

William Hill Offering Five Places on ALL The 2023 Cheltenham Festival Handicaps
In addition to the 2023 Cheltenham Festival non-runner, no bet offer, William Hill are also going five places on the handicap races over the four day festival.
Lee Phelps, a spokesperson for the firm, told the Racing Post: “The picture for a lot of ante-post punters will now be a fair bit clearer after a busy week of festive racing, but there’s certainly no guarantee that any horse will make it to Cheltenham in March at this stage.
“So, with interest building all the time but still a few doubts over festival targets, it feels the right time to give customers some insurance on their Cheltenham bets.
“This is the earliest we have ever gone with this offer on all races at the festival, and we look forward to seeing where the money lands over the coming weeks.”
What Does Non-Runner, No Bet at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival Mean?
In short, non-runner, no bet means that if you place a bet on a horse in a certain race at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and it DOESN’T RUN in that particular race then you’ll be refunded your stake.
Most novice punters will probably think this would be the case anyway, but the normal rules when betting antepost (weeks/months before a race) is that if the horse doesn’t run, then you lose your stake.
It’s only if you place a bet on the day of the race and if it’s then a non-runner, would bookmakers refund your stake.
Non Runner, No Bet A Great Offer With Horses Having Many Options
With a lot of horses having the option to run in several races at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, then it’s often tricky for punters to pinpoint the exact path they will take. It’s not uncommon these days for horses to have many entries across the four-day meeting, with owners and trainers keeping their options open until nearer the race date before deciding.
However, the ‘good news’ for William Hill punters is that this doesn’t matter now as they can safely place a bet in ANY 2023 Cheltenham Festival race and if the horse doesn’t make it, they will be refunded their stake. This will also cover horses that may pick up injuries in the build-up to the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, as well as the horses with multiple entries and declarations.
