It’s day four at the Cheltenham Festival and Gold Cup Day!
Before the ‘big one’, the action on the final day of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival starts with the Triumph Hurdle (1:30). This is a race that popular owner Rich Ricci took last year and has another leading chance with Lossiemouth.
The County Hurdle (2:10) is the second race of the day and all eyes will be on the JP McManus Cheltenham runner Filey Bay, who has headed the beating for a while.
Some fair chances in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (2:50) – a prize Willie Mullins has won twice in the last 5 years.
It’s Cheltenham Gold Cup (3:30) time next and if the Cheltenham odds are anything to go by it’s all about Galopin Des Champs here. This Mullins runner had the Turners’ Chase in the bag last year, untill falling at the last – so, can he make amends in the biggest Festival race of them all?
The Hunters’s Chase (4:10) follows, with Vaucelet topping the betting but we should also have last year’s winner – Billaway – in the race.
We end with the Paddy Power Mares’ Chase (4:50) and the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (5:30). The last-named has been dominated by Paul Nicholls, Gordon Elliott, Willie Mullins and Joesph O’Brien recently – winning 9 of the last 10 between them.
