BMW PGA Championship 2023 Preview
This year’s defending champion is Ireland’s golfing sensation Shane Lowry, who beat fellow 2023 European Ryder Cup teammates Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm by one shot with a score of -17 in 2022. The 148th Open Champion returns to Wentworth to defend his crown this week, available outright at a price of 18/1 with the best golf betting sites.
The field this week will be hopeful of hitting their best form, aiming to win a sizable share of the €6,215,965 prize pot. Some of the best players in the world are are in action this week such as FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, Masters champion Jon Rahm and Tom Kim to name but a few.
Taking a look at the course itself, Wentworth Club – West Course is a quite exquisite piece of golfing architecture. The course was originally designed by world-renowned golf course architect Harry Colt in 1922.
The par-72 layout which spans over 7,284 yards features ten par-4s, alongside four par-3s and par-5s respectively. Greens in regulation will play a huge part in naming the winner come Sunday, as well as accuracy off the tee and finding the fairways regularly.
Wentworth, a Harry design which was renovated by South African golf star Ernie Els from 2005-2017, always proves to be a stern test to the worlds best golfers. This week will be no different, as all 12 of Europe’s Ryder Cup team set for Rome at the end of the month are in action this week.
Without further ado, here is who we think has the best chance of winning and giving us a good each-way run at the 2023 BMW PGA Championship this week from Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey, England.

BMW PGA Championship Tip 1: Jon Rahm To Win @ 15/2 with BetUK
Reigning Masters champion and Spanish golfing sensation Jon Rahm heads to Wentworth this week as one of the favourites with the best sports betting apps. Rahm is our SportsLens outright tip to win the 2023 BMW PGA Championship this week.
The 28-year-old is one of the hottest players in the world, and has been for a few years now. Not only has Rahm won 11 PGA Tour events and 10 European Tor events, but he has also of course won two major championship. Already in 2023, Rahm has won three PGA Tour events as well as The Masters back in April.
He is yet to win a DP World Tour event this year, but this week could be his time. Rahm is clearly a fan of Wentworth having finished second here twice in the BMW PGA Championship before. This includes a second place finish last year, as well as a runner-up place back in 2019.
Rahm’s last appearance on the European Tour was at The Open Championship back in July, where he finished in a tie for second on -7 par. Rahm hasn’t been at his best on the PGA Tour since, but looks to be back firing on all cylinders just in time for the 2023 Ryder Cup at the end of the month.
The Spaniard clearly likes this course and it suits his game. If he can get the putter rolling he will almost certainly be in with a chance of winning come Sunday down the stretch.
BMW PGA Championship Tip 2: Ryan Fox To Win & Each-Way @ 45/1 with BetUK
Ryan Fox is an ever-present name at the top of leaderboards now on the DP World Tour. The New Zealand golf star comes here fresh off the back of a third place finish at the Irish Open last week, and is priced as a 45/1 outsider with the best golf betting sites to win this week at Wentworth.
Fox has been a consistent Top 10 and Top 5 finisher on the DP World Tour for several years now. He has also began to make waves over on the PGA Tour, which is testament to how strong a player the 36-year-old is. Fox’s last win on the DP World Tour came just shy of a year ago when he won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Since then, Fox has had numerous Top 5 and 10 finishes on the DP World Tour without actually winning. He is a seriously strong player all-round, especially off the tee and from the fairways. If he is to have a strong week this week, it is imperative that the putts drop for the big Kiwi.
He will be full of confidence after last week’s showing at The K Club over in Ireland, so is most certainly a force to be reckoned with this week in the 2023 BMW PGA Championship. Backing him at a huge price each-way looks like a solid bet.
Other notable mentions
Although Rahm and Fox are our biggest fancies for success this week, here are some other notable players who we think have a good chance at a great price:
Rory McIlroy @ 15/2, Matt Fitzpatrick @ 16/1, Ludvig Aberg @ 22/1, Sepp Straka @ 40/1 and Robert MacIntyre @ 66/1. All prices are with BetUK.
