Nina Carberry knows a thing or two about the Cheltenham Festival – having ridden seven winners at the best jumps meeting during her career. Now a mum and a respected pundit for Paddy Power, Nina has lifted the lid a horse she thinks is worth siding with in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase over the more fancied runners.

Cheltenham Festival 2024 (Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase): “Monty’s Star Is Improving and Stays Really Well”

Not long now folks till the tape go up 2024 Cheltenham Festival and with that many pundits and former jockeys are throwing their hat into the tipping ring.

The latest to do so is Nina Carberry, who rode seven winners at the meeting during her career – including four in the Cross Country Chase and is still the joint winning-most rider in that event.

Carberry is saying she was impressed with Fact To File’s beating of Gaelic Warrior at the DRF and would be a big player in the Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase on day two.

As a result Fact To File is the favourite here with the best UK horse racing betting sites.

However, his trainer Willie Mullins is keeping his cards close to his chest on where Fact To File will run – as he’s also favourite for the Turners’ Novices’ Chase.

With that in mind, Nina Carberry is suggesting the Henry De Bromhead runner MONTY’S STAR could be the safer call in the Brown Advisory.

The 7 year-old was a fair third to Corbetts Cross at Fairyhouse in December on his first run back. Then improved on that to win a Beginners’ Chase at Punchestown on New Year’s Eve and Punchestown.

That was only his second career run over fences and Carberry feels there is more to come.

Nina Carberry Told Her Paddy Power Blog Readers

“I like Monty’s Star, who wasn’t up to standards in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham last year. He’s improved on his first run of the season and he stays really well.”

“He’s a little unknown and he is lightly raced but he could run a big race. I’m not 100 per cent confident he’d beat Fact To File but he’s worth chancing at the prices. If Fact To File goes to the Turners instead, it gives Monty’s Star a great opportunity to win this.”

Monty’s Star is also owned by Barry Maloney, who paid the bills for former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and this year’s Cross Country Chase favourite – Minella Indo.
