The Sandown going report ahead of their Saturday 6th January card unfortunately tells us the meeting has been CALLED OFF. The Esher area suffered heavy overnight rain on Friday night and that was enough to make the ground unraceable and with more rain forecast the track had to abandon a day early.
Sandown’s Saturday 6th January Fixture Had Been CALLED OFF
This Saturday’s Sandown Park were hoping to stage their first horse racing fixture of 2024, however the track has been forced to call off the card due to heavy overnight rain in the Esher area on Thursday and there is more forecast.
It was only last month that the Sandown Tingle Creek card in early December had to survive an inspection and with heavy rain battering the track on Thursday and more on its way – the Met Office yellow rain warning was proved right.
RACING UPDATE:
Following this morning’s inspection, we have regretfully abandoned racing on Saturday 6 January. 34mm of rain fell on the track overnight leading to several parts of the course being waterlogged, with no chance of sufficient improvement in time for tomorrow.

There are also no plans to reschedule the lost Sandown card, which featured a Listed Mares’ Hurdle and a Veterans’ Handicap Chase.
As a result there will be NO racing at Sandown on Saturday and with Wincanton also planning an inspection at 8am Saturday for their weekend fixture, there is a chance the UK could be left with only Newcastle racing over the jumps.
The good news is there are no reported issues at Newcastle, with their action running from 11:55am to 3:25pm.
The ITV Racing cameras were also due to show four races from Sandown on Saturday.
Kempton and Southwell are also set to race on the All Weather on Saturday, so horse racing fans will still have some action into the evening too with these fixtures running from 4pm to 8:15pm. Plus, over in Ireland, there are no reported issues ahead of the Cork jumping card.
