The ever-popular Frodon has been retired following his fifth-placed finish in Boxing Day’s King George VI Chase –Â a race he won back in 2020 at huge odds of 20/1.Â
Frodon Heads Into Retirement To Live With Bryony Frost
The Paul Nicholls-trained horse built up an incredible relationship with regular rider Bryony Frost over the years and he will now go and live with her after 27 consecutive races together (30 in total). Frodon finished in the first three 20 out of the 30 times he was ridden by Frost, with 11 wins together in the process.
Boxing Day was the final time that the pair will link up on a racecourse after finishing fifth in the King George, and the legendary horse won the Kempton Park spectacle in 2020 when making all under Frost.
Trainer Nicholls was speaking on the retirement of the much-loved horse: “He ran a good solid race at Kempton but we’ve taken the decision to retire him.
“We’re not going to ask him to run again, he’s been a fantastic horse winning King Georges, Ryanairs, Festival handicaps and so many different races since he was a three-year-old.
“He’s going to have a wonderful home along with Black Corton down with Bryony on Exmoor, I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fun. But that’s the last we’ve seen Frodon run, and what a wonderful horse he’s been – I wouldn’t mind a few more like him.”

Biggest Career Wins For Frodon
Being a three-time Grade 1 winner, Frodon always had plenty of support amongst horse racing fans and punters in general, so see below some of his biggest career victories.
Nicholls’ star arguably had his most prolific season in 2018/19, winning four of his five starts. He won the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, the Cotswold Chase and Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham where he was successful six times from 16 runs there.
Frodon wasn’t just a major winner in England either, he also went over to Northern Ireland and landed the Down Royal Champion Chase with Galvin, Minella Indo and Delta Work all in behind.
However, one of the best of them all had to be his front-running Kempton win on Boxing Day 2020, where he became one of the most memorable King George Chase winners in recent times (see below).
The star-chaser’s last career win came in the Badger Bear at Wincanton back in November 2022, he was sent off as favourite carrying the top weight, making all.
